Incubator_Setup_Notes_partI
date created 20210601 date last revised 20210611 renamed part I
purpose of post: record notes on incubator setup, product dimensions, and potential layouts
- PDF of incubator dimensions (bottom of inside, shelves, whole incubator)
Our previous experiments used 6L minitanks that house 1 aquarium pump and 4 ‘bailout chambers’ (2.5x2.5in tupperware with mesh panels). However, we want to scale up our experiments so we can fit more tanks on each shelf and work with more than n=4 coral fragments per treatment (ambient and hyperosmotic stress).
- Sterilite 17551706 30L trays purchased to catch any water overflow from shelves with tanks (16inx23in). This can only hold 4 (6L) tanks per shelf.
- Ideal characteristics for smaller tanks: fit 8+ per shelf, holds more than 1L because the tanks start half full (the aq pump displaces ~100mL)
- we will make bailout chambers out falcon tubes with a mesh bottom rather than tupperware (this will take up less space)
potential tank options
- 2L clear, circular plastic containers (height: 10in, diameter: 4.25in). we already have 6 of these, could fit 15 per shelf
- 2L, clear plastic tubs USVM02076 Vtopmart, dimensions = height: 8.1in, length: 5.1in, width: 3.3in), $27.99 for 12, could fit 24 per shelf
- USPS01010 Vtopmart medium storage tub, dimensions = height: 6.7in, length: 6.1in, width: 6.1in, $17.99 for 3, could fit 6 per shelf
